When I began this blog, I vowed to myself that I would be transparent with this journey. In my first blog, I told you all this wouldn’t be the typical highlight reel and life in rose-colored glasses that we often see on social media.

Recently I’ve been struggling to write. I’ve been searching for positive stories and inspiration to share with you all. When I write, it comes from deep down, and well, it just hasn’t been there.

It’s safe to say I’ve been a little low. I don’t think I’m alone. Maybe it’s the current circumstances in our world or stressing the uncertainty of what lies ahead.

This morning, I woke up, had a cup of coffee while I did my morning reading, and then I took my dogs for a walk. I put on my headphones, turned on Your World Within (an inspirational podcast), and then I just thought.

I’m not sure which episode I started with, but it took me back to a different place. In my sophomore year of high school, I got really into Train to Be Clutch. An inspirational brand started by Joshua Medcalf. Every night when I was going to bed, I would listen to one of his brief podcasts/inspirational voice memos.

I did this for a reason. Joshua emphasizes we are six things.

  1. What you WATCH.
  2. What you READ
  3. What you LISTEN to.
  4. Who you SURROUND yourself with.
  5. How you TALK TO YOURSELF
  6. What you VISUALIZE

I figured if I listened to a positive podcast every night before going to bed, then I would wake up in a better place. I wasn’t wrong, and I believe that the little notion of listening to a 4-8 minute podcast every night changed dramatically the way I felt the next day.

So, back to the walk. I was putting one foot in front of the other without reflecting about the head and the heart that lies above those feet.

I stopped. I stood still for a moment and just reflected. It’s then I realized 4/6 things I was feeding myself were setting me up for failure. I wasn’t WATCHING positivity, I wasn’t LISTENING to music and podcasts to inspire my heart, I was TALKING to MYSELF in a negative way, and I wasn’t VISUALIZING positive outcomes.

Then I began to walk again. Before I knew it, this blog was running through my head. For the first time in a while, I felt propelled to write. With my dog’s leashes in one hand, pulling me forward and my phone in the other, I began to jot down the words running through my head. And, well, that’s just what you have read above.

Now home, I’m committed to getting back to the little things to set myself up for success. I realize in today’s world, there is a lot of negativity and sadness. I’m not ignoring the fact that it is hard to avoid. But, if we search hard enough, there are always inspiring stories, positive memos, and energizing fuel for our hearts.

For this reason, I am launching a new part of my website called The Good Stuff. There you can find books, videos, songs, podcasts, social media accounts, and quotes that I have found to inspire me. I want you all to have a place you can go to when you feel the need to hear something GOOD. If you come across something that you found to inspire you, I would love for you to send it my way so I can share it with others. I hope you all find this page valuable!

Thank you, Joshua Medcalf and Eddie Pinero (founder of Your World Within) for continuing to inspire me and serving as a reminder to reflect.

There you have it. My honest story. Thank you all for walking this journey with me, and I hope this blog served to inspire you.
